Here is an interview with a toxicologist on site in the Gulf of Mexico who says that no safety precautions are being taken to safeguard the health of volunteers or workers cleaning up the oil spill there. Like people who have helped in past disasters (Exxon Valdez, 9/11, etc.) they run significant risk of long term health injury or death because of their willingness to help out and do the right thing.
